FAQ – General questions

Q1	How do I tell which version of Microsoft Word I have? Click here to show the answer Click here to hide the answer If your Microsoft Word version has a Help menu: Select Help menu > About Microsoft Word. You will find the version number in the first line of the window that opens. If your Microsoft Word version does not have a Help menu but has an Office button in the top left corner: Click the Office button. Then select the Resources category. You will now see the version in the bottom of the window.
Q2	What is an add-in and a macro? Click here to show the answer Click here to hide the answer An add-in is a supplemental program that adds custom commands or features to an application. DocTools WebSearch is an example of an add-in. A macro is an action or a set of actions that can be used to automate tasks. All DocTools macros are created using Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (also known as VBA). A single add-in may contain several macros. The functionality of an add-in or a macro can be made available to the user in different ways, for example from a menu or a toolbar. In case of Microsoft Word 2007, the macros can also be made available via custom tabs that are added to the Ribbon. In Microsoft Word, installed add-ins are listed in the Templates and Add-Ins dialog box. In Microsoft Word 2003 and earlier versions, you can open the dialog box from the Tools menu. In Microsoft Word 2007, you can e.g. open the dialog box by clicking Document Template on the Developer tab. The illustration below shows the Templates and Add-Ins window with DocTools WebSearch listed. You may have several add-ins installed at a time.
Q3	Are the any macro security issues related to DocTools macros? Click here to show the answer Click here to hide the answer All files from DocTools that include macros are signed with a VeriSign digital certificate. The purpose is to assure you that the content is safe, truly comes from DocTools and has not been altered or corrupted in transit. In addition, the signature makes it possible for you to use macros in DocTools products with the Microsoft Word macro security set to high. Depending on your security settings, a security warning may appear the first time you open a file from DocTools that contains macros. If that happens, follow the steps below in order to enable the macros. This is especially important if the security warning appears during the installation of a DocTools product. If you do not enable macros, the installation will not be finished corretly. In case of Word 2000, 2002 or 2003 In the Security Warning dialog box, turn on the button Always trust macros from this publisher. Then click Enable Macros. In case of Word 2007 If the text Security Warning, Macros have been disabled appears below the Ribbon, click the Options button next to that text. In the dialog box that opens, turn on the button Enable this content. Then click OK. Q4	The keyboard types the wrong characters – what could be wrong? Click here to show the answer Click here to hide the answer When you use the Alt, Ctrl and Shift keys, you may by incident hit the Alt+Shift keys (without pressing any additional keys). If you have defined more than one keyboard layout, the Alt+Shift key combination may be set up to switch between the different keyboard layouts. Press Alt+Shift again until the keyboard works correctly (a short name for the language may be shown, e.g., in the bottom-right area of the screen (e.g. EN for English, DA for Danish).

FAQ – DocTools WebSearch

Q1	A new browser window or tab is opened for each search I perform – is there an easy way to get rid of windows or tabs I don't need anymore? Click here to show the answer Click here to hide the answer Use shortcuts to quickly close a browser window or tab if you do not need it anymore after having performed a search. In Internet Explorer (IE) and many other browsers, you can press Ctrl+W or Alt+F4 to close the current tab or window. Consult the browser's online help for more details about shortcuts.
Q2	The DocTools WebSearch toolbar contains icons that I don't use – can I remove them so the toolbar takes up less space? Click here to show the answer Click here to hide the answer Yes. You can hide all the icons if you wish or show precisely the ones you want. In the DocTools WebSearch toolbar, select Setup > Modify Toolbar. The dialog box that opens lets you show or hide the icons individually.
Q3	Can I change the keyboard shortcuts used in DocTools WebSearch? Click here to show the answer Click here to hide the answer Yes. Many of the commands in the toolbar have been assigned keyboard shortcuts. In the DocTools WebSearch toolbar, select Setup > Modify Toolbar. The dialog box that opens lets you remove, assign or change shortcuts of any of the search commands.
Q4	I use TRADOS / SDL TRADOS for translation purposes. Can I use DocTools WebSearch together with TRADOS? Click here to show the answer Click here to hide the answer Yes, DocTools WebSearch can be used in combination with TRADOS wihtout conflict. The default shortcuts in DocTools WebSearch have been defined so that they do not conflict with the TRADOS shortcuts.
Q5	One or more keyboard shortcuts in DocTools WebSearch do not work or another command is executed instead – what could be wrong? Click here to show the answer Click here to hide the answer All keyboard shortcuts in the DocTools WebSearch menu use the key combination Alt+Ctrl+Shift+ [character] in order not to conflict with built-in (default) keyboard shortcuts in Microsoft Word. However, if you have added new keyboard shortcuts or if another add-in (global template) use the Alt+Ctrl+Shift+ [character] key combination, there may be a conflict. Solution First try selecting Setup menu > Modify Toolbar and click OK in the dialog box that opens. This forces a rebuild of the DocTools WebSearch toolbar and the keyboard shortcuts. If this does not solve the problem, do the following: Locate the command that use the same keyboard shortcut as the one in DocTools WebSearch. Try changing that shortcut via Tools menu > Customize > Keyboard button. In case of Microsoft Word 2007: To open the Custommize Keyboard window, select Office button > Word Options > Customize category and click the Customize button next to Keyboard shortcuts (bottom of the window).
